Long Way Down is a television series, book and DVD documenting a motorcycle journey undertaken by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, on which they rode south through 18 countries from John o’ Groats in Scotland to Cape Agulhas in South Africa via Europe and Africa in 2007. It is a follow-up to the Long Way Round trip of 2004, when the pair rode east from London to New York via Eurasia and North America.

I guess it has entertainment value, but good god, could they have made this trip any more logistically-complicated or gear-intensive? Much of the ‘drama’ involved in this series results from the ridiculous amount of stuff and staff that were involved in this (and the Ewan’s wife is just ridiculous….). Believe it or not, people have ridden motorcycles around the world without anywhere near this amount of unnecessary junk, and without an entire team of help and support vehicles.
